I’ve often travelled into London for the day to visit the sites, but only once with the boys. Taking two boys under the age of two through the underground by myself using my poor navigation skills was a stressful experience that I really did not want to repeat.
This journey into London we were determined to absorb all that London has to offer. We drove electric meaning we didn’t need to pay congestion charges and London hosts far more charging points in various locations making charging the car easy.
An overnight stay meant we could take London at our pleasure and explore more on foot. Our hotel, One Aldwych, was centered at the head of Waterloo Bridge making it a prime location to explore Covent Garden, landmarks and take a trip to The London Transport Museum.
Being a family of foodies the location meant we also had a wide range of restaurants and cafes on our doorstep.
We arrived at One Aldwych and were immediately greeted at the door with a warm smile and assistance with our bags. The boys were also greeted and made to feel special as we were led to the front desk to check in. The building is over 110 years old and holds its history alongside modern art and design in a well thought out twist. The grade ll listed building was originally home to The Morning Post before opening its doors as an independently owned hotel in 1998 and continuing development to transform it into the luxury accommodation it is today. The hotel is complete with restaurant, lobby bar, state of the art gym and probably my favourite feature, the chlorine free swimming pool.
We were kindly led to our suite overlooking Waterloo Bridge. The entire room was outstanding, from its perfectly curved walls and custom built shelving and furniture to the wide bed and floor to ceiling windows. The boys were quite happy just watching the red London buses pass by as we tucked into the complimentary mini bar and made ourselves a Nespresso coffee.
In the bathroom we had Childs Farm toiletries laid out alongside soft baby towels and the boys’ own dressing gown and slippers to match the adults.
London was hot this weekend so we changed into our swimming suits ready to cool down in their indoor swimming pool. The pool is free from chlorine, so gentle on little ones skin. Our eldest has sensitive skin so this was a blessing. The pool measures 18 metres and the tranquil environment is set by mood lighting and underwater music. If you are visiting without children then there are adult only swim times.
Along the poolside is also a sauna and steam room and loungers.
After our swim we headed back up to our room in our robes to prepare for dinner and a stroll around London. The hotel is in a great location and there are some great restaurants all in walking distance. Dishoom was our restaurant of choice and it did not disappoint. Once our bellies were full we headed back ready to jump into our Super King bed and get some rest before our adventures planned for the morning.
I couldn’t resist a workout in their Technogym space. The gym is complete with weight lifting area, cardiovascular equipment and weight machines. After a quick workout I joined my family to prepare for breakfast. The restaurant is a relaxed space but with impeccable service. There are menus for the children and a wide choice to please everyone. I went for a healthy breakfast with avocado on toast and a side of greek yoghurt which was delicious. The boys were served so wonderfully with attentive staff and were made to feel incredibly special and welcomed.
We fuelled up ready for our day at The London Transport Museum which is also a short walk through Covent Garden.
If you are looking for a luxury escape in London for your family then One Aldwych is the place to go, we could not fault any aspect of our trip and look forward to returning again.
