How to spend a weekend in The Isle Of Wight.

Are you looking for a family-friendly holiday destination in the UK?

Then look no further than The Isle of Wight.

With its beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, and a variety of family-friendly activities, the Isle of Wight is the perfect destination for a UK staycation.

Travelling to the Isle of Wight can be an adventure in itself, especially if you choose to travel by Wightlink Ferry.

The crossing from Portsmouth to Fishbourne takes just 45 minutes and the ferry has a small soft play area for children onboard as well as cafe and comfortable seating with panoramic windows allowing you to get a unique view across the Solent.

We travelled in a rented VW Grand California from Breeze Campers which allowed us to enjoy the freedom and flexibility of exploring the island, the perfect vehicle for family adventures. In the camper we had the luxury of two beds to fit our family of four, dining space, fridge freezer and showering facilities.

We pitched up for under £20 at Nodes Park. Located in the beautiful town of St. Helens, this family-friendly holiday park has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay, including a range of accommodation options, from caravans and lodges to camping pitches and glamping pods.

We took full advantage of the evening entertainment and the swimming pool onsite. To help you make the most of your stay on the Isle of Wight, here are some tips for enjoying a family-friendly holiday on this beautiful island:

1. Visit the beaches The Isle of Wight is known for its beautiful beaches, and you won’t want to miss them. Whether you’re looking for a secluded cove or a bustling beach with plenty of amenities, you’re sure to find something to suit your family’s needs. Some of the best beaches on the island include Ryde Beach, Compton Bay, and Sandown Beach.

2. Explore the countryside The Isle of Wight is home to some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. From rolling hills to dramatic cliffs and breathtaking views, there’s plenty to see and explore. The island has a network of footpaths and cycle routes, making it easy to get around on foot or by bike. If driving, you can also take a scenic beautiful scenic route around the island.

3. Visit the attractions The Isle of Wight is home to a range of family-friendly attractions, from theme parks and zoos to historic sites and museums. Some of the most popular attractions include Blackgang Chine, Robin Hill Country Park, and the Isle of Wight Zoo. We visited just before the official season started so most of these attractions were closed but we took the boys to Tapnell Farm park which had a vast range of animals and activities from mini golf to a barn inspired indoor play area.

4. Sample the local cuisine The Isle of Wight is known for its delicious local cuisine, including fresh seafood, locally grown produce, and traditional dishes like the famous Isle of Wight Garlic. You can sample the local cuisine at a variety of restaurants and cafes on the island, on the Sunday we took a trip to Ryde and grabbed coffee in cake in the Chocolate Apothecary which served the best cookie I have ever eaten.

So pack your bags, hop on the ferry, and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
